Make a statement in this soft cotton sweatshirt custom made by us. The Never Forget Collection pays homage to destroyed Black communities just like Warren. Warren was once a thriving town inhabited primarily by the employees of the local mill, many of whom were Black. Labor intensive jobs like these were attractive to formerly enslaved people setting out to build a new life for themselves. Unfortunately, the city of Baltimore had other plans for this town and the rise of special interest groups funded by wealthy whites led to the reclamation and "preservation" of much land in the United States. Under the guise of environmental protection, many were displaced and the land they once knew was repurposed, often to serve the whims of the members of such groups. One of the loudest voices in support of the destruction of the Union occupied area was proud Confederate, Thomas H Buckler, who insisted that the area was diseased and polluted beyond saving and used his political power to urge Baltimore officials to level the town by flooding it into Loch Raven Reservoir. By 1922, the once vibrant town was gone, leaving behind only traces of its existence in the few structures that survived the flood. The existence of Warren and its resting place at the bottom of the reservoir have been written off as legend over time until records of the town's presence were recovered. May we never forget the hard working townspeople of Warren who lost their homes to institutional racism in a thinly veiled disguise.
