Make a statement in this soft cotton sweatshirt custom made by us. The Never Forget Collection pays homage to destroyed Black communities like Black Bottom. Black Bottom was named for the nutrient rich soil of the River Savoyard which now exists as sewage beneath a redeveloped city. Once a thriving Black community complete with a business district, Paradise Valley, and night clubs on the famed Chitlin Circuit, the area was bought out and leveled to make room for a park and freeway. With the development of housing projects in many "urban" areas came the destruction of existing and thriving Black communities complete with residences and commercial buildings which were condemned and destroyed often with little to no notice or compensation. Having been home to the legendary Aretha Franklin's father and his church, a deep and meaningful piece of history was destroyed along with the Black Bottom neighborhood. Let us never forget the vibrant town that both hosted and bred cultural icons.
